style is the starting point.
This week wasn’t about being perfect, it was about staying in motion. Between running errands, to prepping for rehearsal, and planning the blog, I had to really remind myself that how I move through the world, and how I show up: it’s my style. It isn’t just my fits, or any of what I do on the outside. It’s my energy, it’s me.
I can’t lie: what is style?
In a distant memory, I agreed that style is a way to say who you are without speaking. Quoted by Rachel Zoe. And for the most part, I can say that I agree with that notion. I’ve come to realize that this isn’t just a destination, it’s the starting point. Style helps remind me of who I am. Even when I’m busy, even when I’m stressed: throwing together a good look or sometimes just planning one, keeps me connected.
I bought a new swimsuit; I put together a few outfit ideas for upcoming July events. That felt refreshing. Even getting ready for rehearsal felt refreshing. I felt refreshed. And when you think about it, it comes back to the truth: ‘when you look good, you feel good.’
Self in the details
Learning that taking care of myself, sometimes requires or is just as layered as I am. It’s the morning routine, knowing that I’ll return to a made bed and having a lunch prepared for the work day ahead; quiet moments journaling, because you know what. I may be tired, but I’m proud to do what needs to be done, for me.
Last week’s prompt asked: What are the most important things needed to live a good Life?
That’s the stuff that matters.
The stuff that matters
For me, it’s peace. It’s ease. It’s feeling like I’m choosing myself, each and every day. No matter how big or small the gesture, it doesn’t have to be perfect. I just have to be present, for me. Do what I said I’d do. And you know what, style helps me do that.
However you express yourself, and I mean in a progressive way, soul-forward way; let it be from intention. Let it evolve with you, because the way you live, the way you care for yourself, the way you move through the world? Thats your style. That’s you. And that’s the stuff that truly matters.
k bye
